After spending time with a doting foster mom, Daphne, a golden girl, and her gray-tan sister Penelope, are ready for their forever home. Penelope has a feisty energy and loves to hop when given room to frolic while Daphne is the more mature and demure sister. Plus, these sisters are already bonded and that saves their new owner from the sometimes nerve-wracking bonding process when bringing a new friend home to a resident pet. Come meet Penelope ID#A038806 and Daphne ID#A038805 and learn how two delightful bunnies can fill your home with warm, fuzzy love.
(…and the occasional bunny!)
This little girl is a love-bug! Honey is a 5-year old white & tan Border Terrier. She would be best suited as an indoor dog and she’s not a big barker, so an apartment would be a great choice. She enjoys the company of other dogs her size. Honey tends to be a little needy and would be best placed in an adult home with someone who can offer her a fair amount of attention. Along with casual exercise, she’d be very content to sit and cuddle. For the chance to meet this charming dog, ask to see Honey, ID# A043022.
This iconic couple is made up of a mild-mannered 11 year old female Fox Terrier, Molly, and a spunky 2 year old brown male Chihuahua, Pica. They are the best of friends and their individual traits complement each other to make these two a great addition to any family. They need to be adopted together as indoor dogs but they will enjoy daily walks and other casual outdoor activity. You’ll never find a more classic couple, so contact the shelter and ask to see them: ID #A009811 and ID #A036975.
Just over a year old, our little Nugget is a high-energy white, neutered male Chihuahua who would fit perfectly into an active household. He should be an inside pet with regular outdoor activities to keep him in shape and happy. And as with any young dog, a little basic training will greatly enhance his already delightful personality. Nugget is anxious to find a loving family to share his life with, so stop by and ask for a meet & greet with Nugget ID # A042397.

SPECIAL NEEDS TEENAGE KITTEN: Curry is a white and orange tabby female kitten who recently had her hind leg amputated. Her remaining hind leg is somewhat malformed so she is not able to jump or run like a normal kitten. But does she care? Nah. She may stay low to the ground but everything else about her is normal as can be. She is happy, active, litter box trained, and loves to play and snuggle when tired. Curry may not be graceful but she can run up carpeted stairs and even climb up the side of a bed. But don’t be fooled, she isn’t a pushover; she is confident despite her obvious challenges! Curry is looking for a home where she will be an indoor only cat, and would be fine in the company of other calm animals. Please call Elaine @ 310-529-7362 for more info!
At the beginning of every new year, we all stop to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going. It’s a time for reflection and introspection as well as a time for dedicating ourselves to new goals and new challenges. For shelter volunteers, we may try to draw inspiration from the others around us, and one of our greatest examples is David Freedman.
David works in many capacities to care for our shelter dogs and to help each of them find the perfect forever home. He volunteers weekly on the Adopt-A-Pet Show as well as helping out for appearances on KTLA, showing television viewers in Burbank and all of Los Angeles the wonderful animals waiting for them. In addition, he regularly participates in Happy Tails Hikes, giving the public another look at some available dogs as well as giving the dogs and volunteers some well-deserved fresh air and sunshine.
But David isn’t just in it for the glitz of the television cameras. He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty with less glamorous tasks like cleaning up, carrying heavy loads and just being available wherever he’s needed. Through it all, he keeps a sharp sense of humor, sometimes aimed at the VBAS president, but always in the spirit of good fun.
It’s this combination of enthusiasm, adaptability and wit that makes David Freedman the Volunteer of the Month for January 2012.
Eagerly awaiting his perfect forever-family, Sal is a tan and white, Smooth-Coated Chihuahua mix who loves a lot of interaction with people and other animals. He is almost 2 years old and is best suited as an indoor companion in an adult home or a household with older children. Sal would also do well in an apartment, as long as he can accompany his family on casual outdoor activities. Another of the current collection of eager and happy small dogs, Sal has a lot of love to give, so stop by and ask to see ID#A042299 for your introduction!
