Stella is on the mend!

Little Stella, a sweet 10 month old Labrador/Doberman mix was having a very bad day when she arrived at the shelter.  She could barely walk and was in a great deal of pain.

X-rays revealed a broken pelvis.  Stella would need surgery to fix the damage.

We sent her to the specialist who used plates and screws to stabilize the bones and put her pelvis back together.

The surgery went well, and Stella is back at the shelter and starting her recovery.  She will need to stay confined while the bones knit, but she gets to go on short walks with our Kennel Attendants throughout the day.  She has a special sling to help keep the weight off her hips, and she likes to explore and say hello to everyone she meets.  She’s been through a lot, but she’s still a friendly, happy-go-lucky little dog!  We’ll have more updates next month.

We would like to say a big thank you to our friends at VCA Animal Specialty Group for performing Stella’s surgery.  We also want to say a *tremendous* thank you to our donors for making Stella’s surgery possible.  A public shelter being able to provide life saving surgeries like this is *not* common.  Stella was one of a number of major dog surgeries the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter financed this month, and we could not have done it without the generosity of our donors.  Thank you for saving Stella.

Please consider making a donation to help the next animal needing a life saving surgery like Stella.
