The Kittens Are Coming! A Poem.
-by Alicia Zhong

Listen, my friends, and I shall relay
A story of kittens who needed to stay
In a foster home where they could thrive
With volunteers who kept them alive
And cared for them till adoption day.

One, a bottle baby named Boo,
Was alone and surely would have died,
But Sally knew what to do.
She scooped up Boo and tucked her inside
A cozy box with heated pad
To keep her warm. Oh, Boo was glad!
She wiggled tiny ears in delight
As she nursed from bottle day and night.

Two and three were Bonnie and Clyde
And mama cat nursing them with pride.
She supervised the feisty pair
Within the safety of her lair.
Their human, Jess, came in to weigh
The kittens and give them meds each day.
The outside life had been hardcore,
So grateful were they to be indoor.

Four and five were Spock and Kirk,
Weaned kittens eating solid food.
When Ellen would come home from work,
She found a spicy attitude!
Spock and Kirk were oh so scared
Of humans, so they spat and hissed,
But with some time and treats, they dared
To trust and accept the love they’d missed.

Because of volunteers’ time and care,
These five little kittens and many more
Grew up, and at the adoption fair,
Found homes to love them forevermore.

As the weather warms, we sound the alarm –
The kittens are coming, and we need you
To offer shelter, protect them from harm,
To nurture and love them through and through.

You can save a life with the time you’ve got
If you let a kitten stay awhile.
Whether weaned or nursing, spicy or not,
We’ve kittens to match your lifestyle.

The shelter helps with vet, supplies,
And support if problems should arise,
So all you need is love and time.
We hope we’ve convinced you with this rhyme.

Each year our Kitten Foster Program saves hundreds of kittens by providing temporary homes to stay in until they can be adopted. Last year we fostered 425 kittens (an all time record) and we’re getting ready to do it again. But we need your help! We need more foster parents.
Fostering is fun, rewarding, and saves so many lives. The program provides training and all supplies.
