The Kitten Foster Program is always recruiting fosters!
SIGN UP TO FOSTER HERE

Every year hundreds of kittens arrive at the Burbank Animal Shelter, but the shelter does not have the capacity to house them all. The VBAS Kitten Foster Program (KFP) was established in 2001 to meet this need, and each year KFP saves over 250 tiny kittens. Without this program these kittens would not survive.

Kitten Foster Parents take in these tiny kittens and care for them until they reach 2 pounds and can be adopted. We are always in need of more volunteers to help! We need you!

Fill out the Kitten Foster Volunteer Profile and a recruiter will be in touch with you upon receiving your profile.

Have questions? Check out some answers below!

What does fostering entail?
Foster families provide warm, loving homes and care for kittens until they reach adoption age. We provide training, supplies and all medical coverage. When your kitten reaches adoption age, we will help you (marketing, advertising, adoption fairs) find a purrfect adopter. Our adoption rate is 100%.

Who can foster?
Anyone with some spare time can foster kittens. We will match you to kittens that fit your lifestyle. Past experience is not necessary, just a love of kittens!

What types of kittens go into foster care?
Kittens that are too small to stay at the shelter (anywhere from 1-2 days old up to 8 weeks) go to foster. Some need to be bottle fed, others are already eating solid food, some may need socialization or medical attention. Based on your availability and ability, KFP will find you the right match.

What would my responsibilities include as a foster parent?
Caring for and playing with kittens, making sure they are eating and using the litter box, administering medications according to the medical staff (if applicable), bringing kittens in for medical appointments, attending adoption events, and communicating with the foster program as to the progress of the foster kittens. Kittens remain in foster care until they are adopted, and our adoption rate is 100%.

This sounds great! How can I become involved?
Please complete our Kitten Foster Volunteer Profile. A recruiter will be in touch with you upon receiving your profile.
