The 12 days of VBAS 2020

The 12 days of VBAS 2020
On the 1st day of Christmas the VBAS medical program gave to Ralph ONE emergency Hospitalization.

Sweet Senior Ralph developed pneumonia and required care beyond the means of the shelter.  Because of donors like you, Ralph was able to spend three days in the ICU at the animal hospital.  It saved his life.
Help the next animal at the Shelter that needs to go to the hospital for life saving treatment or surgery. Donate here.

On the 2nd day of Christmas the VBAS honored TWO dogs, Munchie & Derose, by sponsoring a 50% adoption fee reduction for all bonded pairs.

Munchie and Derose, and 3 other bonded pairs were able to be adopted together due to the VBAS funding its reduced fee adoption program.   In addition to bonded pairs, adoption fees for seniors (7+ years old) and long term residents (5+ months) are 50% off as well!  4 bonded pairs, 9 long termers, and 3 seniors were adopted through the program in 2020.
Help us continue this program and honor a special love like Derose and Munchie, Alex and Benson, Tiger and Sharkie, Ruth and Nancy and many many others. Donate here.

On the 3rd day of Christmas the VBAS Kitten Foster Program took in THREE hundred kittens!

In a normal year our Kitten Foster Program takes in 250 kittens and provides them with care and loving homes until they can be adopted.  2020 was not a normal year (for many reasons) and the Kitten Foster Program cared for over 300 kittens!   Thank you to all our dedicated fosters who made this miracle possible!

On the 4th day of Christmas the VBAS Puppy Foster Program fostered FOUR puppies!

Being a puppy foster parent is a 24/7 job!  Thanks to our Puppy Foster Program, our foster families made sure 4 puppies received all the care and love they needed to get a second chance!

On the 5th day of Christmas, the VBAS provided  FIVE lab tests per week.

Mae Mae wasn’t feeling well when she first got to the shelter.  Lab tests and bloodwork done by our medical program discovered kidney stones that needed immediate attention.  A plan was made and soon Mae Mae was feeling *much* better!  She made a full recovery and was adopted to her forever home.
Help us provide labs and bloodwork for all the animals that need it! Donate here.

On the 6th day of Christmas, The VBAS bought over SIX hundred pounds of food for our kittens.

The 300+ kittens in our Kitten Foster Program ate over 600 pounds of kitten kibble this year!

On the 7th day of Christmas, our VBAS foster families provided SEVEN days a week of at home care.

When everything started shutting down we put out a call for fosters and many in the community stepped up.  We placed 25 of our dogs and 10 cats in foster homes.  The foster families got a new friend to keep them company during that uncertain time, and our dogs and cats got out of the shelters and into homes!

On the 8th day of Christmas the VBAS gave to our Kitten Foster Program EIGHT thousand pounds of litter!

Shuri and T’Challa are just as shocked!  They and their friends in the Kitten Foster Program (Over 300 kittens fostered this year!) go through tons of litter every year. Literally!
Help keep the litter pans stocked and help us save more kittens.  Donate here.

On the 9th day of Christmas, the VBAS placed NINE barn cats into safe homes during the months of August and September.

Our Barn Cat Program and Socialization Team work all year long to secure barns, stables or businesses for outdoor, unsocialized cats who could never be adopted as a house pet. The Socialization Team works daily with the scared and stressed cats and through this effort some are successfully adopted.   12 socialization cats and 27 barn cats graduated from these programs in 2020.

On the 10th day of Christmas, the VBAS gave to injured or ill animals TEN X-rays every week.

Our Digital X Ray machine continues to be an absolute game changer for our medical program! Every animal needing x-rays gets them!

On the 11th day of Christmas the VBAS celebrated ELEVEN years of Happy Tail Hikes

An amazing idea for a shelter dog – to hike in a park or on a mountain trail.  Twice each month, our Happy Tails Program takes shelter dogs on Volunteer led hikes in Stough Canyon and local parks.
